Our Mission
Thrive Healthy Relationship Education (THRIVE) seeks to advance whole-person wellness for teens by equipping them to navigate choices, pressures, and values that shape their future relationships and outcomes. Through honest conversations, factual information, and proven prevention models, THRIVE opens the door to healthier thinking around common teen experiences — promoting sexual integrity, preventing abuse, and supporting emotional and mental well-being.

Our Curriculum
Research shows that risk behaviors such as drugs, alcohol, smoking, vaping, and early sex are dramatically reduced when teens understand the essentials of whole person health and gain the skills needed for developing healthy relationships and making early decisions regarding their future.

THRIVE offers both middle school and high school specific curriculum that helps students think about their life goals, creates a positive message around avoiding high-risk behaviors, and leads students toward healthy relationship dynamics.

“PURSUE" VALUABLE HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS
Our middle school Pursue curriculum from Education for a Lifetime gets students thinking about their future in high school and promotes a strong, positive message about avoiding high-risk behaviors. All material presented is backed by reputable, evidence-based research.

LIVING A LIFE BY DESIGN
Encourages students to plan by setting goals and realizing that this is a critical time in their lives. Students are taught ways to reduce and eliminate the risks of these possible consequences and are encouraged to make decisions now that will set them up for success and freedom in the future.

DEVELOPING WISDOM & EXERCISING STRENGTH
Focuses on developing wisdom through critical thinking and exercising strength through wise choices. Addresses the influence of the media on our attitudes and behavior as individuals. Teaches how to navigate the internet with caution and to look to trusted adults for help.

SETTING BOUNDARIES
Involves educating students on the importance of establishing healthy boundaries in their relationships , equipping them with the communication skills needed to talk through their boundaries, and encouraging them to have courage to stand up for themselves and others.

"THE CHAT"
“The CHAT” curriculum focuses on healthy communication and conflict resolution. Growing in our ability to communicate helps ALL of us experience less frustration and more success. Middle school students are especially helped in the development of their self-concept by an introduction to healthy communication patterns and conflict resolution skills. This curriculum is taught over the course of three days.

EMOTIONAL NEEDS
Focuses on helping students discover, understand, and articulate their emotional needs and using communication to help get our basic needs of the heart met as well as doing the same for others.

HEALTHY COMMUNICATION
Helps students understand what healthy and accurate communication looks like, how to use clear and precise language in communication with others, and how to communicate well based on different roles (listening vs. speaking). Focuses on communication with friends and family.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
This part of the curriculum goes into a deep dive of communication skills. Looks at the character traits of successful communications such as compassion, courtesy, and respect. Shows the important of weighing our words carefully and how our words can make an impact. Teaches that healthy people ask for help, when to ask for help, and how to find the right resources to get the help students may need.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION
Educates students on communication patterns to avoid, as well as constructive ways to resolve conflict to protect important relationships. Helps students create awareness about when communication is becoming destructive, address difficult communication from others, clarifying misunderstanding, look for common ground, and develop effective problem-solving.

Communication is one of the most essential life skills we can develop—it shapes how we see ourselves, how we connect with others, and how we move through the world. From landing a job to building healthy relationships, the way we express ourselves can change the entire trajectory of our lives. Strong communication skills help us feel heard, resolve conflicts, and collaborate effectively. They build trust, strengthen teams, and allow us to express our ideas with clarity and confidence. At THRIVE, we believe communication isn’t just a soft skill—it’s a foundation for personal growth, relational health and safety, and long-term success.

“PURSUE" VALUABLE HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS
Both of our high school curriculums were developed by Education for a Lifetime. PURSUE gets students thinking about their life goals and encourages them to avoid high-risk behaviors such as sexual activity, STIs/STDs, sexting, pornography, and dating violence, all of which become hurdles to healthy future outcomes in life. All material presented is backed by reputable, evidence-based research.

LIVE A LIFE BY DESIGN & CHOOSE HEALTHY SEXUAL ACTIVITY
Students are encouraged to plan a healthy future by setting goals and are shown that high school is a critical time to invest in their lives. They are provided evidence-based research that explains how sexual activity, in an unhealthy context, can pose hurdles to their health and achieving their personal life goals. Students are encouraged to make decisions now that will set them on a trajectory to the future they desire for themselves.

DEVELOP WISDOM THROUGH CRITICAL THINKING & EXERCISE STRENGTH BY MAKING WISE CHOICES
We address the influence of the media on our attitudes and behavior as individuals. The second part of the dicussion focuses on some of the pressures students face, such as pornography, sexting, and the influence of drugs and alcohol as they pose a risk to healthy relationships and whole person health.

SETTING BOUNDARIES THAT VALUE ONESELF AND OTHERS & SHOWING COURAGE BY STANDING UP FOR ONESELF
Students are educated on the importance of establishing healthy boundaries in their relationships (such as requiring consent from both persons in a relationship), and are equipped with communication skills needed to talk through their boundaries with their partner. They will also learn how to identify characteristics of unhealthy relationships and abusive behaviors.

COMMITTING TO HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS BY SETTING A STRONG FOUNDATION FOR MY FUTURE
Supporting material is presented that equips students to begin preparing for marriage by discussing the importance of developing a healthy committed relationship from the start. We explore ways to establish healthy communication and healthy conflict resolution.

"WHO CAN RELATE": SUICIDE AWARENESS & PREVENTION
Our presentation to 9th-12th graders is designed to be an adjunct to what is already being taught in your school district and is sensitive towards students who have experienced thoughts of suicide, bullying, cutting, abusive relationships, etc. Rather than present statistics on suicide or share insensitive details about this topic, Who Can Relate is conversation-driven and leaves students with tangible action steps. This curriculum was developed with input from Mayfield Counseling Centers out of Colorado Springs, CO.

Focuses on helping students discover what it means to be needed. Explores the idea that everyone needs to know that they belong and are essential to the health and wholeness of a community, including a group of friends, a school, and a family.

Helps students understand that their value is not based on what they do, but on who they are. Encourages students to be aware of the internal conversations that occupy their minds and how these reveal what they believe about themselves. Considers how positive and negative self-perceptions can take hold and influence them to become what they believe.

This part of the curriculum investigates what it means to be loved and shows how people give and receive love in different ways. Looks at the importance of communicating love to others and of recognizing the love that has been shown to them. Students are asked to identify trusted adults in their lives who make them feel understood.

Kami Teramura
Director, Community Educator
Kami was raised in the small northeast Oregon town of Athena. She holds a Master’s degree in Community and Regional Planning from the University of Oregon. After working as a City Planner for several municipalities in the Willamette Valley, Kami and her husband moved with their young sons to Ontario in 2002 to be closer to family. She homeschooled her two sons and since their graduation has continued working in the realm of education as a substitute teacher and interim school principal. In 2022, Kami became the Community Education Director for Hope Pregnancy Center, and now oversees Thrive Healthy Relationship Education. Kami’s parents ingrained in her the importance of civic engagement and how each person has a role to play in helping future generations reach their potential. She has a passion for youth and families and desires to see them equipped and operating in strength and stability. Kami is accredited as a Sexual Risk Avoidance Specialist through ASCEND. She takes great delight in the newest additions to her family, a daughter-in-law and granddaughter, and enjoys searching out “finds” at thrift stores. When Kami isn’t presenting to youth, you’ll most likely find her traveling to community events in a big red double-decker bus from Ireland that she and her family have converted to a mobile coffee shop.

Chet Bayes
Community Educator
Chet was born in Wilder, Idaho and has deep roots in the western Treasure Valley. He graduated from Abeka Academy and married his wife in 2016. They now call Payette, Idaho home and have grown their family by three: two boys and a girl. Chet is passionate about equipping young people to thrive as a whole person. He has been involved in youth outreach programs his entire adult life, even serving as a youth pastor for several years. Currently he serves as a youth leader at his church and oversees the children’s program for the local recovery ministry. Chet is the Director of Men’s Outreach at Hope Pregnancy Center while also fulfilling the role of Community Educator for Thrive Healthy Relationship Education. He has earned accreditation as a Sexual Risk Avoidance Specialist through ASCEND. Chet is a consumer of books that focus on relationships, human behavior, addiction and recovery and is working to distill the knowledge he’s gained into practical application that can help people find personal freedom and establish quality, healthy relationships that are fundamental to success.
